Engine identification number

The engine number is stamped on the right side of the engine on the flange below the bleed valve.



The chassis number is located on the right side of the vehicle on the front cross member.



(1) 1-3 = International manufacturer's index, WVW = VW AG'

(2) 4-6 = Fill index, except USA

(3) 7+8 = 2-digit abbreviated identification number, consisting of the first two digits of the full official identification number.

• 21 = van
• 26 = flatbed truck
• 22 = CARAVELLE
• 27 = ambulance
• 23 = combi

(4) 9 = Other information padding digit

(5) 10 = Data by year of manufacture, e.g. C - 1982, D - 1983, etc.

(6) 11 = Manufacturing plant within the concern, W - Wolfsburg, E - Hannover, E - Emden, A - Ingolshadt, N - Neckarsulm, K - Osnabrück.

(7) 12 - 17 = Current numbering starting from 000001 from the year of manufacture of each model.
