Lapping of valve seats

With normally machined valve seat rings and new valves, lapping of the valve seats in the cylinder head is usually not required if the leak test is positive.

Coat the valve seat in the cylinder head with valve grinding paste and insert the valve into the guide sleeve.

Moisten the rubber suction cup and press against the valve head.



Lap the valve by turning the lapping tool.

Caution: Grooving of the seating surfaces is eliminated by frequently lifting and continuing to rotate the valves during grinding.

At the end of the lapping process, carefully remove the remnants of the grinding paste.
