When repairing a cylinder head with leaking valves, it is not enough to treat or replace the valves and seats. It is essential to check the wear of the valve guides. Worn guides do not provide a centered valve seat and cause increased oil consumption. With very high wear, it is necessary to either deploy the guides or replace them (workshop work).
Remove deposits in guide bushings with a reamer.
Insert a new valve, clamp the cylinder head in a vice with the combustion chamber upwards. The end of the valve stem must close from below with a guide.
Using a suitable dial indicator, determine the play when the valve head moves in both directions. The valve guide must be replaced if the play exceeds 1.2 mm (service station work).
