The shock absorber can be checked by hand.
1. Remove shock absorber.
2. Hold the shock absorber in a vertical position. Stretch and compress the shock absorber.
3. The shock absorber should move evenly and smoothly with the same force.
4. A faulty shock absorber can also be identified while driving by knocks and crackles. Of course, these noises can also have other causes, such as loose screws, nuts, faulty wheel bearings, swivel synchronizers. Therefore, before replacing, it is necessary to check the shock absorber, if necessary, give it to the bench test.
5. When working flawlessly, small traces of shock absorber oil are no reason to replace the shock absorber. General rule: if there are traces of oil that do not extend further than from the shock absorber cover (piston rod sealing pin) to the lower spring seat, the shock absorber is OK. Provided also that the oil stain is matte or dry from dust. A small oil leak can even be regarded as an advantage, since the sealing pin is lubricated and thus increases its service life.
6. In case of severe oil leakage, replace the shock absorber. Shock absorber oil is not filled.
