Removal and installation of the rear shock absorber

Removing

Attention! On machines with all-wheel drive, disconnect the axle shafts from the gearbox and hang them horizontally on a wire to the body. Otherwise, the synchronizer joints may be damaged.

1. Unscrew the top fixing screw (arrow) shock absorber. The car must be on wheels. The machine, if necessary, can be slightly raised to access the mounting bolt.



2. Unscrew the shock absorber from the steering knuckle, while holding the shock absorber with a special tool VW-3245.

3. Take out the shock absorber.

Installation

1. Check the rubber bushings of the shock absorber for porosity and damage, replace if necessary.

2. Install shock absorber.

3. Install the washer so that the lapel points to the shock absorber.

4. Tighten shock absorber from below to 45 Nm.

5. Gradually lower the machine until the upper shock absorber screw can be installed.

6. Tighten the screw to 100 Nm.

7. If necessary, lower the machine completely.
